Rie successfully pitched at Metroscreen for her own short film My Family Is Special and Luke Dunham's film Call Me, winning equipment subsidies worth $1000.

Rie has written and directed five short films for the NSW Department of Education:
- Loren Gets A Job, for Year 9 students,
- How to Make a Short Film, suitable for Year 6 upward,
- First Day of School, for year 6 students,
- Positive Behaviour Support,
And a promotional film for Figtree High School.
